Originally ordained as a priest, he had a breakdown, seemingly due to stress and overwork as well as grief over the loss of his wife, and became a serial killer targeting prostitutes. When faced with arrest, he instead jumped from the church tower at St Cyril's.

Fitzsimons is a disorganised, mission-driven spree killer. He has convinced himself that he was doing God's work, punishing his victims for their lifestyle. There was no sexual aspect to his attacks. Indeed, at a certain level, he feels remorse for what he is doing, so he administers the last rights to his victims. Prior to these events, he had no criminal history.
